Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers investigating an early
Monday morning injury traffic crash along Highway 97 south of Klamath Falls are
asking for the public’s help to locate witnesses. Three people were transported
to an area hospital, including an injured pedestrian and the good samaritan who
stopped to help the pedestrian. Highway 97 at the scene will be closed in both
directions for several hours and a detour is in place.

According to OSP Sergeant Robert Fenner, preliminary
information indicates on December 19, 2011 at approximately 5:20 a.m. OSP
troopers and local emergency personnel responded to a reported injury traffic
crash along Highway 97 near milepost 284. An unidentified injured pedestrian
reportedly was lying on the northbound shoulder when a man stopped his GMC
pickup on the shoulder and was outside checking on the pedestrian. A second
vehicle, a red Ford Ranger pickup, crashed into the back of the GMC pickup
pushing it forward and into the good samaritan and injured pedestrian.

Both drivers and the pedestrian were transported to an
area hospital with unspecified injuries.

OSP is investigating that the pedestrian may have been
struck by an unknown vehicle prior to the good samaritan stopping to help.

Anyone who traveled through the area before the reported
crash are asked to call OSP Southern Command Center dispatch at (541) 776-6111.

No more information available for release at this time.

ODOT is on scene coordinating traffic through an
established detour. Traffic updates at www.TripCheck.com.
