Minty Morris Files for Klamath County Commissioner Position 1
Touting a record
of fiscal responsibility, quality leadership, coalition building and community
service, Kelley Minty Morris today announced her candidacy for the Klamath
County Board of Commissioners, Seat 1.
Minty Morris, a
Republican, brings with her a wealth of experience, including posts on the
Community Public Safety Advisory Committee, Citizens for Public Safety, Stop
the Hurt Campaign and Board of Directors at Steen Sports Park. In addition to a
strong record of community involvement, Minty Morris currently works as
Outreach and Development Coordinator for Citizens for Safe Schools, one of the
county’s most successful agencies, working to keep children from a life of
crime and drugs.
“Between staff,
advisors, mentors and youth, I oversee more than two hundred people,” Minty Morris
said. “Strategic planning, budget analysis, program development and analysis
are just a few of the skills I utilize on a daily basis that I will bring to
the Board of Commissioners,” she said.
Minty Morris
will focus her campaign on economic recovery and development. “Klamath County
is competing against other rural communities, and right now we are failing. We
CAN win,” she said. According to Minty Morris, the current business climate in
the county is not business friendly. “We need to be more attractive to out of
town companies in order to attract new businesses, but at the same time we cannot
ignore existing companies. Many of our home-grown businesses are fighting to
survive. We need to create a better climate by reducing government regulations,
improving infrastructure, and taking pride in the appearance of Klamath County,
among other things,” she said.
In addition to
economic development, Minty Morris feels more transparency and professionalism
are needed in county government. “Klamath County government, including the
Board of Commissioners, exists to serve the people of Klamath County. We need
to remember that. As Commissioner, I will be open, honest and accountable to
those who have elected me,” she said. “Some of the issues and problems that
Klamath County has encountered in recent years have served to divide the
community. In order to once again thrive, we need to come together. I want to
see more citizen involvement. At a time when we should be creating partnerships
and working together, we are more divided than ever. Never-ending infighting
gets us nowhere. I plan to replace divisiveness with common effort.”
Citizens
