NEW POLL: AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR

Four Republican Candidates

In a primary campaign season that
has provided us with some wild swings and frontrunners that have dropped out of
the race, the field has been reduced to four candidates seeking the nomination
of Republican voters to be the person that will go head-to-head against Barack
Obama for the Presidency this November.

Here’s a brief breakdown on those
that have dropped out of the contest: Tim Pawlenty withdrew from the race last
August. After surging in the polls, Herman Cain
announced his suspension from the 2012 race, on December 3rd 2011. Michele
Bachmann won the Iowa Straw Poll last August; she withdrew her candidacy
January 4, 2011. John Huntsman withdrew from the race January 16, 2012. Texas
Governor Rick Perry was the frontrunner when he entered the race last August; he
withdrew from the race January 19th, just 2 days before the South
Carolina Primary.

As if the ever changing “lead role”
of the candidates wasn’t enough drama this campaign season, we were treated to the
drama of the wrong candidate being declared the winner of the Iowa caucus.

The Iowa Caucus
held January 3, 2012, was reminiscent of the “Dewey Wins” event where
Presidential candidate Thomas Dewey was prematurely, and wrongfully, declared
the winner over Harry Truman in the 1948 Presidential election. Mitt Romney was
prematurely and wrongfully declared the winner, by 8 votes, of the Iowa Caucus.
Like the Dewey/Truman fiasco, once the votes were actually counted, Mitt Romney
lost, by 34 votes, to the actual winner, Rick Santorum.

Following
the Iowa caucus was the first official primary vote held in New Hampshire.
Below are the “official” results of that election, and the South Carolina Primary which was held January 22nd.
