7 Candidates Have Filed To Run For Klamath County Sheriff

Chuck Collins

Chuck Collins, a Corrections Sergeant at the Klamath County
Jail, is the seventh person to file candidacy papers with the Klamath County
Clerk’s Office, for the position of Klamath County Sheriff. Incumbent Sheriff
Tim Evinger announced last September that he would not run for reelection.
Below is the announcement Chuck Collins sent to the media, in its entirety:

On the commencement of my 27th year with
the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, I am honored to announce, that I will be
seeking your vote as the next Sheriff for Klamath County.

I am a proud, lifelong
resident of Klamath County, having been born in Klamath Falls and raised in the
Merrill area. For 27 years, I have worked exclusively for the Klamath County
Sheriff’s office, beginning as a reserve deputy in June of 1984 until hired as
a full time deputy on January 27th, 1986. During my time as a reserve I learned
and worked with the patrol division of the Sheriff’s office and have served in
many capacities in the Klamath County jail, since being hired full time, with
the last 11 years in supervisory capacities.

During my time with the
Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, I have had the pleasure to work with three
different Sheriff’s, learning from each of them; the good and the bad.

I will work towards
rebuilding the Sheriff’s Office and protecting the citizens of the great
County, but I won’t be able to succeed by myself. In order to achieve anything,
I will rely on the fine men and women of the Sheriff’s office, other public
safety community members and the citizens of this County. By working
cohesively, we can find solutions to the many challenges we face.

My primary focus,
initially, will be to keep the jail open with the current status quo and will
work to re-open the jail to its full capacity as quickly as possible. Along
with that, I will work to return 24 hour patrols to the streets of Klamath
County. This will not be an easy process, but it must be done to insure the
safety of the citizens we are sworn to protect.

I am confident in my
abilities and the abilities of those that I intend to encompass myself with to
be able to achieve the goals that I will set forth, both performance and
budgetary, and we will immediately begin to work on a long term solution for
the current budgetary problems we face. In doing so, we will also begin
stabilizing the retention of current employees and be able to recruit long term
new employees, which will further insure the peace of mind that the citizens of
the county deserve.

Thank you for your
support, and I look forward to serving this community as your next Klamath
County Sheriff.

Chuck Collins

Mr. Collins joins the following list of candidates that have
also filed to run for Klamath County Sheriff: Michael Angeli, Carl Pfeiffer,
Peter “Mike” Shepherd, Brian P. Bicknell, Frank Skrah, Ron Broussard

The Klamath County Sheriff position is a nonpartisan
position, and unless one of the seven candidates earns 51% of the vote, the top
2 candidates will face each other in a run-off election this November. If one
of the seven candidates successfully earns 51% of the vote, that candidate will
be declared the winner.
